How to Play Lagos Life

From a blank browser tab to a living Lagosian in about ten minutes: account creation, login, getting around, and every fix for the things that go wrong on the way.

Before you start: what you need

Lagos Life is a browser game, so the checklist is short. You need a device with a modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari from roughly the last two years), an internet connection, and about ten minutes. There is nothing to download — no launcher, no app, no APK. Any site telling you otherwise is either out of date or trying to hand you a fake installer (see our APK warning page).

One thing to know before you click anything: the official terms say the game is for players aged 18 and over. That is a real rule, not a suggestion — the game has open chat with strangers, and the developer states they will close accounts they believe belong to someone younger. If that is you or someone in your house, our safety guide covers the details.

Creating your account

  1. Open the official game. You can use our play page (it opens the official game in its own tab) or go straight to the official site. Both are the same game on the same servers.
  2. Click "Sign up". The landing page shows a green sign-up button next to the live player count — you literally cannot miss it.
  3. Choose your username and display name. The terms ask for a name that isn't offensive and doesn't impersonate anyone real. Pick something you will be happy being called in public chat — this name is your reputation in town.
  4. Set a password. The official privacy policy says passwords are stored hashed, so even the developer can't read them. Still, use a password you don't reuse anywhere else — free viral games attract account thieves.
  5. Email (optional, but add it). The account works without an email. The catch: password resets are sent by email, so an account without one is unrecoverable if you forget the password. It costs thirty seconds. Add it.

That is the whole form. No phone number, no address, no payment method required to play — the game's optional money features come later, if ever, and are covered in our safety guide.

Logging in and staying logged in

Click Log in on the official landing page and enter your username and password. The game keeps your session alive with a login cookie — ll_session, described in the official privacy policy as the cookie that "keeps you signed in".

When sessions break, it is almost always one of these:

  • Private/incognito browsing. Most private modes delete cookies when the window closes, so you will be logged out every time. Play in a normal window.
  • Cookie-blocking settings or extensions. If your browser or a privacy extension blocks cookies for the game's domain, you cannot stay logged in. Allow cookies for the official site — the developer states the game sets only the login cookie plus an optional visit-counting cookie, with "no ad trackers, ever".
  • Browser cookie rules. If your browser is set to block cookies for the game's domain, you cannot stay logged in. Allow cookies for the official site — the developer states the game sets only the login cookie plus an optional visit-counting cookie, with "no ad trackers, ever".

Forgot your password? The reset flow emails you a link — which only works if you added that optional email at sign-up. This is the single most common regret of players who skipped it.

Getting around the city

Once you are in, navigation is map-driven: the city is presented as a set of labelled locations — from the Beach to the Office to Amala Shitta — and you travel by selecting where you want to go. There are currently thirty open locations plus two marked "coming soon" on the official map, and each is its own little scene with its own crowd. Our map & locations hub explains all thirty and groups them by purpose.

Getting around is part of the joke, and part of the love: this is a city where transport is a danfo ride and the community has been known to vote itself a weekly transport subsidy. Exact travel mechanics — how long a trip takes, what it costs, what your character does en route — are being verified in-game: [待补:交通系统细节(耗时、费用、 danfo 体验描述)]. We would rather leave a placeholder than invent numbers.

Beyond movement, the interface has a few systems worth knowing exist on day one: a job and income system (naira, gigs, offices), a weekly Governor election where players vote and pass laws, and a jail system added in October 2026 — the developer's public warning was "watch your actions!". Being a nuisance in Lagos Life now has consequences.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an email address to sign up?
No. Per the game's privacy policy, only a username, display name and password are required — email is optional. The trade-off: the official password-reset flow works by email, so if you skip it and forget your password, there may be no way back into the account. Our advice: add an email.
How do I move around the city?
You travel by clicking destinations on the city map — the official interface shows every location as a labelled button, and your character travels between them (with danfo-flavoured flavour text). Exact travel times and costs: [待补:移动耗时与费用数值]. The full list of destinations lives on our map & locations page.
Why does the game keep logging me out?
The game keeps you signed in with a first-party cookie (called ll_session in its privacy policy). If your browser clears cookies on exit or blocks them for the game's domain, your session dies. Options: allow cookies for the official domain, don't run the game in private/incognito mode, or use the official site in a normal tab — which our play page opens for you.
Can I play on two devices with one account?
The terms of service allow one account per person, and nothing in the public docs suggests a limit on devices — but playing on two devices at the same time is the kind of thing that can desync or trigger odd behaviour. Play on one device at a time and log out when you switch.
